ELECTRICARDER for Ashford 12" Drum Carder
I’ve made a few batts now, separate ones in Gotland, Finn and Huacaya alpaca. I’m very pleased with the batts and how much faster they are to produce, and so much easier on my hands and wrists

ELECTRICARDER for Strauch 8 inch Drum Carder
Just letting you know that the Electricarder was successfully fitted and is now up and running. Must admit that there was a sinking feeling when I first assembled it and all that happened was the drive sprocket spinning and the belt slipping. Turns out that the previous owner of the Strauch carder apparently was unfamiliar with the concept of cleaning and maintenance. Karen had cleaned out the worst of the mess when she got the carder with the business, but there was dirt and fibre jammed into some inaccessible spots. I stripped the carder down to the last component and cleaned out several years of fibre. Seriously, I thought the drive shaft bushes were fitted with felt washers at first, but it was just felted yarn jammed in there. After every component was cleaned and lubricated, I reassembled the carder (twice – the first time to see what it looked like assembled backwards), and lo and behold, when the carder isn’t fighting itself to turn by hand, the Electricarder works a treat. I’m fairly sure you guys will be hearing from Karen in the near future about a second manual carder that needs a motor. Just wanted to pass on thanks and compliments on a fine product.
