Carding is the process of separating the fibres and then
assembling a loose strand of aligned fibre. This is called a sliver. You can use hand paddles/carders, which is
the slowest way of carding.
Or use a Carding Machine- generally referred to as a Drum Carder. In this process the fibres are
loosened, dust and dirt is released, the fibres are combed to align. Drum
Carders are hand-cranked, and are very effective.
Combine your Drum Carder with an ElectriCarder and whiz through
that pile of fleece. You’ll be producing batts, rovings and slivers in a tenth
of the time!
[Currently Carder delivery is only available within Australia. ElectriCarder delivery is available worldwide]
